Voxware Donates to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma In the Wake of Devastating Tornadoes
$5,000 Donation Helps Food Bank Provide Relief for Victims of Storms.
HAMILTON, NJ – October 3, 2013 – Voxware, an innovative voice software provider, has announced a donation of $5,000 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma in support of the organization’s response to the devastating tornadoes and flooding that hit its region earlier this year.
The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma works to provide meals for a growing number of families within 53 central and western Oklahoma counties. The state consistently ranks among the top ten in the nation for food insecurity, with more than 600,000 struggling with hunger on a daily basis.
The devastation created by the tornadoes that struck the state in May, 2013 only amplified that challenge.
Since providing direct food assistance in the immediate aftermath of the tornado, the Regional Food Bank has distributed more than million pounds of food and supplies to more than 8,000 households. Even now, months later, the Regional Food Bank reports that approximately 125 area families are still getting food from the Regional Food Bank due to the longer-reaching effects of the storms.
“A good number of these families are just now feeling the economic impact of what occurred last May,” explained Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “Insufficient insurance coverage, or an unexpected job reduction, has resulted in many families seeking help with food assistance for the first time in their lives.”
The warehouse and distribution center of the Regional Food Bank was directly affected as a tornado touched down only 13 miles from the 150,000 square foot facility in Oklahoma City. The Regional Food Bank lost outdoor greenhouses that provided fresh vegetables as well as a hydroponic system that served as a source of vital protein. The nonprofit’s air conditioning unit was also picked up and dropped, causing damage to the warehouse roof.
Voxware’s voice software is used in the warehouse and distribution center of the Regional Food Bank (and a number of the other largest US Food Banks) to improve warehouse productivity, increase worker safety and better meet the needs of the families and organizations the Regional Food Bank serves.

Monetary donations came in which were then matched by Voxware.
